Australia currency
The Australian currency unit is the Australian Dollar (AUD).
The dollar is a decimal currency system, made up of cents (100 cents equal one dollar). The currency comes in denominations of $100, $50, $20, $10 and $5 notes, and coins $2, $1, 50¢, 20¢, 10¢, and 5¢.
Currency exchange facilities can be found throughout Perth and the metropolitan area, including Perth International Airport. To get the best rate you would be better getting in touch with the larger banks as they have better buying power.
There is no limit to the amount of currency you can bring in or out of Australia. However, you must declare amounts of AUD$10,000 or more or foreign equivalent.
If asked by Customs you must also fill in a Bearer Negotiable Instruments (BNI) form if you are carrying promissory notes, traveller’s cheques, personal cheques, money orders or postal orders.
