Kindergarten
Kindergarten programs are available to children who have turned or will turn four by the 30th June in any given year. Kindergarten programmes run for the equivalent of four half days per week. Kindergarten programmes are structured differently within individual government schools. They may therefore also be offered as two full days or one full day and two half days.
While many kindergarten programmes are offered on the school site, some programmes are run off-site in close proximity to the school.
Pre-primary
Pre-primary programmes are available to children who have turned or will turn five by the 30th June in any given year. Pre-primary programmes run for five full days. With very few exceptions, pre-primary programmes are available on the school site.
Preparation for attending university
At senior secondary school level, students intending to enter university select at least four Tertiary Entrance Examination (TEE) subjects. TEE subjects are assessed through a combination of class work, assignments and examinations. These subjects contribute to a students TER, although in some courses additional requirements may apply.
Most schools offer a balance of both programmes for year 11 and year 12 students; however, some schools focus on providing a syllabus for university entrance and others on providing practical vocational training.
